Measuring Event Security: Beyond “No Incidents”

March 12, 2025Elena V. Ortega

Credentialing throughput, average response time to radio checks, and post-event debrief quality.

“No incidents” is a lagging indicator that can hide near misses. Leading indicators for large venues include credentialing throughput (wait time vs. risk), radio check compliance rates, and variance between scheduled posts and actual coverage.

Queue dynamics matter: long lines create crowd pressure that becomes a safety issue separate from malice. Measure ingress peaks and adjust staffing proactively.

Post-event debriefs should capture three wins and three deltas—concrete, assigned owners, due dates. Archive lessons searchable by venue type; conventions are not concerts.
